Thank you for your interest in my practice.
I'm a licensed clinical psychologist who is  committed to providing
the highest quality  mental health  services to our community.

I provide individual, couples, and group psychotherapy, as well as
psychological evaluations for children, adolescents, and  adults.
Areas of interest/specialty include trauma (particularly adult
survivors of childhood sexual abuse), grief and loss, LGBT
concerns, couples, and diversity. I also work with a range of other
presenting concerns. I am open to discussing your particular
concern and deciding, with you, what you would like to work
toward in therapy.

My primary office location is in Gwinnett County, on Beaver Ruin
Road in Lilburn.  However, I also see individual psychotherapy
patients in Cobb County, on Windy Hill Road in Marietta and in
Monroe County, on Eatonton Road in Madison.    Evening and
weekend appointments are available at all locations.

I am currently offering groups in my Gwinnett office for…

• Adult male survivors of childhood sexual abuse
• Adult female survivors of childhood sexual
abuse
• LGBT individuals
• Anger management

I believe that everyone should have access to mental health
services and, as a result, my fees for psychotherapy services are
on a sliding scale basis. This means that the fee that you pay is
based on your income. My normal rate for psychotherapy is
$115.00 per session. However, my fee for therapy goes as low as
$50.00 per session, depending on your income.  I also accept the
following insurance…

  • Medicaid (for assessment and therapy with individuals age 21
    and younger)
  • Peachcare for Kids
  • Medicare
  • Private Healthcare Plans

Open and honest communication about this and all other aspects
of your therapy is encouraged.

The following information is provided to give you greater insight
into my approach to psychology and change...

...Helping People Change

I believe that individuals have the capacity to understand and
change the aspects of their lives that are unsatisfying.

Oftentimes,  individuals move through life operating on assumptions
and expectations  that may even be outside  of their conscious
awareness.  Working through this "unfinished business" of one's past
paves the way for more  satisfying interpersonal relationships and
overall contentment in one's life.

My  therapeutic approach is predominantly psycho-dynamic in
nature.
This means that we help individuals better understand their
early  history and experiences, and how these experiences affect the
individual's current relationships. I sometimes incorporate techniques
from Gestalt, Humanistic, and cognitive-behavioral approaches to
address the individual needs of the client.

...Trauma

There are many different types of traumatic experiences, and each of
us individually defines what has been traumatic for us
during our
lives.   Research has shown us that early experiences of physical,
emotional, and sexual abuse are more common than they were once
thought to be.  As a result, a great deal of attention has been paid in
recent years to the  psychological and behavioral effects of early
trauma.

Survivors of childhood sexual abuse often experience painful
psychological effects from the trauma such as fear, shame, anger,
lack of  trust, problems in relationships, depression, anxiety, and
difficulty with intimacy. Sexual abuse survivors also sometimes
experience dissociation,  difficulty managing their emotions, and
even physical symptoms. It is important for trauma survivors to
recognize that these feelings are not uncommon, and you are not
alone.

Psychotherapy can help the survivor explore and address these
painful experiences in a safe, nurturing, non-judgmental
environment. Even though trauma survivors often share similar
emotional experiences, it is very important to remember that each
person processes trauma in different ways and at different rates. I
believe that work with survivors of  trauma must include self-care,
empowerment, sensitivity, and respect. You DO have the right to be
heard.
